Who was Sam Slick?
Sam Slick was more like Haliburton's alter ego rather than a "pen name" Yes when Slick was
first being read it was in the editorial section of the Nova Scotian...only because
Haliburton at the time was a politician and member of the bar...and therefore prohibited in
some ways about speaking out.
Haliburton's character "Slick" became so popular that he was convinced to write several books
featuring the fictitious Yankee clock peddler who would become an inspiration for the likes
of Mark Twain, and firmly planted Haliburton as one of Canada's first and most reknowned humour
writers.
